Potent topical corticosteroids (bethamethasone diproprionate 0.05% ointment) are the mainstay of therapy for vulvar dermatoses.

Topical 2% testosterone proprionate cream is sometimes used in conjunction with steroids in the treatment of lichen sclerosus.

Estrogen vaginal creams (Estradiol or conjugated estrogens) are occasionally used for the treatment of atrophic vulvovaginitis, which frequently accompanies vulvar dermatoses in the elderly patients.

Patients will require a maintenance dose for prolonged periods of time.
