Vulvar pathology and sexual
function disorders, can affect a large segment of the female
population. All ages are at risk, from teenagers through post-menopausal
women.
Vulvodynia
-vulvar discomfort characterized by burning, stinging, irritation,
or rawness- & Dyspareunia
-painful vaginal intercourse- are two conditions that are often
misdiagnosed and mistreated.
The interest in the diagnosis and management of vulvar disease in
general, and vulvodynia/dyspareunia and sexual dysfunctions in particular,
has increased substantially in the past few years. This was spurred
in part by the rising prevalence of bacterial and viral genital
infections within the female population, but also by the valiant
efforts of several centers and organizations in facing this often
ignored, but potentially debilitating condition.
The Center
The Dyspareunia & Vulvar Pain Center -DVP
Center- offers
a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and management of
vulvar/vaginal pathology and pain,as well as sexual function disorders,
in women of all ages.
Dr. Kamal Alexander Hamod supervises the evaluation, therapy, and follow-up of all patients. Physiotherapy/Biofeedback and Psychosexual Medicine consultations, will be tailored to the patient's needs and will be conducted by Johns Hopkins Medical staff at Greenspring Station.
